This month, I got to be a part of back-to-back new play workshops, both of which gave me the opportunity to work with some amazing collaborators!
First, my play SLOWLY AND THEN ALL AT ONCE was workshopped with The Larking House in Santa Ana, CA as one of the six plays they selected for their Playwright’s Intensive this year. The workshop was directed by the wonderful Emmanuel Madera, with fantastic design by Adriana Rodriguez Burciaga (lighting) and sound Jeremy Brewer (sound); Kat Maitre, Magan Tran, William Thomas, and Sidney Aaron Aptaker were the wonderful cast, with Ronan Walsh jumping in on stage directions. Sarah Lina Sparks was an excellent stage manager and led all the feedback sessions. It was a real pleasure to finally get to hear this play with a live audience, and thanks to this workshop, I was able to make a few revisions to the script that I think were the remaining finishing touches.
Then, I had the pleasure of directing a workshop of Kate Mickere’s A CHRISTMAS COVEN with Coachella Valley Repertory in Cathedral City as part of their New Works Program, Origins. Our talented cast was comprised of Alison Stolpa, Tammy Taylor, Julie Lippert-Pasco, and Vanessa Smith, and Bryan Burch was our fantastic stage manager and read stage directions at the reading. The team had a lot of fun exploring this wacky, witchy story in the desert.
I’m so pleased to have been able to end the year on such a high, creative note!
