FLYING HOUSE 2013

I took my first trip to Louisiana over the weekend! In addition to stuffing myself with plenty of delicious Creole, Cajun and Southern food, I took part in two excellent events as part of Flying House 2013: a gallery show in Baton Rouge, and a reading in New Orleans.

Flying House is a cross-country collaborative art project that pairs artists with the intention of creating linked pieces of writing and visual art. In the photo above, I am reading from “Billions of Dollars of Treasure, Still Lost At Sea” on the left, and one of the pieces created by my awesome partner, Kristin Abhalter, is on the right. (Though, of course, you have to get a much better, more detailed look at this painting to truly appreciate it.) Order a copy of this year’s anthology to read my short story, as well as to check out all the wonderful writing and art that came out of this year’s collaborations.

Tons of thanks to Flying House Director Megan Paonessa for letting me be a part of this fantastic program, and congrats to all the other talented writers and artists!
